Devlog #1 Lucas Marra

     For the research report, I decided to choose a subject that is not only well known, but also extremely common.  I decided this due to the fact that researching a subject can be extremely tricky especially when you are looking for creditable sources. I decided that gun violence would be a good subject to discuss to to how widespread it is. I also decided that I would try to compare mental illness to gun violence in the U.S because that is an excuse that a lot of people resort to when discussing the subject matter. When researching this topic, their was a plethora of different academic sources that appeared however, only a few actually proved beneficial. I wanted to find sources that not only discussed gun violence's connection to mental illness, but also find a source that discusses gun violence this past year due to how strenuous it was.  

     I discovered that the connection between gun violence and mental illness is extremly weak and most gun violence comes from sane individuals. This actually really surprised me because I always thought that due to the weak gun regulations many clinically ill people were easily able to obtain weapons. However, it completely escaped my mind which means, everyone can easily obtain weapons and gun violence of the mentally ill is not very common.
